Annaclone

Newry Wheelers' new signing, Andrew Bye, was the winner of the A race at the Annaclone Road Races on Saturday, where he dominated affairs to win by over two minutes. The race was handicapped with the  A3's getting a three minute lead over the A1's and 2's. However by the time the scratch group caught the A3's a small group had broken away. This group included Matthew Brennan of Ballymena Road Club - Chain Reaction Cycles, Niall O' Hagan of Ballymoney and Andrew Bye of Newry.

Bye, a former member of the Sigma Sport line up, has quite a pedigree and was the Southern Counties Road Race Champion in 2008 and was sixth in stage 3 of the FBD Rás that same year.
Clifford Grant tells me that Matthew was away for most of the race and got caught in sight of the line. From all accounts he worked very hard during the race but just hadn’t enough left to secure a top six placing.

One rider who did get in the results however was former Ballymena Road Club member Sean Carey who now rides in the colours of North Down. Sean showed he has retained some of his sprinting ability to take the sprint for fourth position.
