Star Trophy

Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles - held their Star Trophy GP of the Glens road race as part of their Northstone sponsored club race series last Wednesday evening.
There was a turnout of almost 50 riders for the event and they started off in four groups with zero, 4, 7 and 11minutes handicaps.  The first three groups came together at various points on the main climb of the race at Glenariffe glen.
The scratch group finally made contact just as the race came out of Martinstown heading for Rathkenny. This set the scene for a frantic final ten miles.
On the run in to the finish the pace was well up but still didn't deter a few souls from having a go at trying to get a gap on their own, most notably Matthew Brennan and Hall Booth who put in hard accelerations to stretch everyone’s legs. As the race dropped down the Ballygarvey Road, going past Ballygarvey Eggs, Carn Wheelers rider Johnny Taylor clipped off the front and managed to hold off the bunch to take a solo victory, on what can only be described as a "challenging” evening of racing.
Results (1) Johnny Taylor (Carn Wheelers) 1 hour 42 minutes (2) Stephen McAllister (Ballymoney) (3) Ryan Bankhead (4) Bobby Kane (Bann Wheelers) (5) Connor Young (6) Neil Millar (7) Clifford Grant (8) Richard Reid (9) Declan Butler (Michelin) (10) John Shaw (11) Sean Wright (12) Nigel Quigley (Bann Wheelers) (13) C Beane (14) Gary Reid (15) P McKeown (16) S Campbell (17) Stephen Dempsey (18) P McGuigan (19) Aaron Swan (NRPT) (20) Mark Wright. The entire result can be viewed on the BRC website.

Ryan Bankhead has extended his lead in the road racing league series after collecting a maximum 10 points as first BRC rider on Wednesday night. Ryan has a total of 36 points; Gary Reid is second on 19 points and Karl Taylor third on 18. (4) Richard Reid 15 (5) Sean Wright 14 (6) Neil Millar 13 points.
The next round is the Clough rangers’ trophy event on the Mid Antrim 150 motor cycle circuit on Tuesday 29th July.
