Tourists support Horizon House Children's Hospice

Sunday, April 6, 2014
A small group of Ballymena Road Club touring section members took part in a cycle ride to Stranocum last Saturday to support a fund raising "coffee morning” which took place at the home of fellow club mate Davy Rankin.
The fund raiser was to assist Jade McAfee from Stranocum, who has a very rare genetic disorder from the MPS family, called Sanfilippo 3A.
This affects one in 85,000 births. Sadly there is no cure. This disease is a progressive degenerative disorder.
Jade is sadly in phase 3 of the disease and in the terminal stage and as Jade’s condition continued to change the support in the local community has been amazing.
This support is continuing and Bushvale Presbyterian Church are organising three relay running teams for the Belfast marathon on 5th of May and Davy Rankin is included on one of the relay teams.
Jade’s family have had help and support from Horizon House Children’s Hospice for the past 12years. The Hospice provides home from home care and allows her mum time off from her 24hour nursing duties.
Many thanks for the kindness offered by Pearl and Davy Rankin for providing the refreshments on Saturday after the cycle ride on what was a blustery damp spring morning. Well done to all who participated. The money raised for the hospice was £150.
