Ballymoney CC hosted a Kermesse (race around the church) on Monday night past.  40 plus riders lined up for ten x 3 mile laps of the famous Armoy motorbike race circuit.”

The riders were set of in four groups with a dozen or so in each group. The handicap was 5 minutes front to back. Ballymena Road Club were represented by Matthew Brennan and C Grant (nephew and uncle), both riding from the scratch group.

The pace was fast and furious from the start and inside two laps the scratch group had blown apart with only 5 riders able to hold the relentless pace. By lap six the remaining scratch group had caught and subsequently dropped the front group riders.  Aaron Swan from TSC led the race by some 40 seconds, and was being chased by a select group of four riders including both Ballymena riders, with Matthew Brennan forcing the pace.

Entering the final lap Swan's lead had been cut to twenty seconds and it was game on.  With two miles to go Matthew Brennan attacked from the chase group but was unable to bridge the gap to Swan who held on to win by twelve seconds.”
