Eileen sets New ladies BAR Record

Tuesday, July 23, 2013
Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles – held their final time trial of the Northstone sponsored club race season over the Woodgreen to Ballee course, last Wednesday evening.
Once again the riders enjoyed perfect weather conditions for this short 5 miles test, the results from which were to prove very significant.
Steven Workman produced another personal best performance to finish fastest, of the 13 entrants, with a time of 10 minutes 10 seconds. Junior rider Connor Young and Matthew Brennan tied for second place with 10 minutes 22 seconds.
However it was Eileen Burns who was the big winner on the night. Eileen clocked 11 minutes 43 seconds to beat her previous best by 59 seconds. This was good enough to win the handicap section; the six points for this win took her to top spot in the time trial handicap league.
On top of all that, and probably more importantly, Eileen’s five miles time, when combined with her 10 miles performance seven days earlier (24 minutes 09 seconds) earned her victory in the Ballymena RC ladies’ time trial best all-rounder contest with a new record average speed of 25.225mph. The existing record had been held since 2009 by Louise Fullerton (Eileen’s sister in law) with an average of 25.124mph. Incidentally Louise’s times from 2009 were 11 minutes 50 seconds for the five and 24.06 for the 10 miles.
