Kanturk 3-Day Youth Race

Ballymena Road Club youth section rider George Graham took part in the recent Kanturk three day race in Co. Cork. George rode consistently throughout the event and finished ninth overall. The 15 year old Ballymena Academy student gives his account of the race.
"Stage 1 was 2 laps of a 20km circuit, bunch stayed together for half a lap or so then a flurry of attacks went off and whole bunch fragmented and I was in third group back. I attacked this group 1km from finish to take 13th.
Stage 2 was an 8km Time Trial, big headwind on a slightly uphill course. The winner’s time was 12 minutes 22 seconds. I managed to record 13 minutes 16 seconds to get eighth.
Stage 3 - 3 laps of a 22 km circuit, whole bunch stayed together for a lap then at start of second lap I managed to get into small breakaway with two other riders but chasers caught us. Then, after several attacks, I was dropped and rode rest of race alone and finished 12th. When all of my points were added together I came 9th overall.”
