Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles – rider Connor Young won the opening round of the inter-club road racing league series at Ballyronan last Thursday night.
BRC road racing committee member Hall Booth has this account of the race. "BRC fielded a strong squad of ten riders for the first round of the 2013 Inter-club series which was hosted by Spires CC on Thursday night over 3 laps of the Loup - Ballyronan circuit.
Sixty riders started in the men’s race.

They were set off in four groups with gaps of 1 min, 1 min and 2 minutes to scratch. The racing was fast and furious with the first three groups coming together on the second lap.

Once together Connor Young from BRC took his chance and attacked. He rode one and a half laps on his own holding off a group of almost 50 riders to finish clear with a superb and well deserved victory on the night. Scratch was unable to catch the main group despite strong riding from BRC.  A fast bunch sprint ensued for second place which saw Ballymoney CC get 2nd, 4th and 6th which puts them in control on the Interclub league with 31 points. The Ballymena team are 2nd on 21.
The next round is hosted by Ballymena Road Club on the 29th May over the Glens Circuit.”
