Fun Tour 12

Monday, November 26, 2012
The penultimate ride in this year’s fun tour series took place on Saturday morning. The icy conditions discouraged many from taking part but, nevertheless there was still a turnout of 33 riders.
The tourists had 25 riders in their group and the majority of them successfully completed a 35 miles ride to Toomebridge, Bellaghy, Portglenone and again up Tully to Ahoghill and back. The "A” group of eight completed a 51 miles ride at 18.2 mph. Their route took in Glenwherry, Kilwaughter, Larne and around the coast road, where the temperature was 10 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than in Ballymena, to Carnlough. Then it was up Glencloy and back in through the Braid and Broughshane. The charity fund received a boost this week. The total seemed stuck at £897 but a few generous participants dipped into their pockets again to raise the total to a record £945. This will be donated to the Chernobyl Children’s Appeal NI at next month’s presentation in the town hall. Nine riders completed their eleventh tour on Saturday and earned their gold medals. They were: Alan (don’t call me Lance anymore) Blair, Liz Carey, Sammy Kerr, Jackie Knowles, Gordon Lennox, Francis O’Kane, Laurence O’Neill, Richard Wilson and Wilnor Worthington.Four completed ride eight for silver, they were: Caleb and Stephen Dempsey, John McAllister and James McBride.Earning bronze for five tours were Scott McAllister and Quinton McFall.
This Saturday is the thirteenth and final ride of this year’s series. It will depart from Rex Bonar House at the normal 9.30am starting time. Hopefully everyone will be fully recovered from the previous night’s celebrations at Eaton Park.
