Nigel wins Time Trial Handicap League

Nigel Kernohan rounded off an excellent club racing season by winning the Ballymena Road Club’s Time Trial handicap league series. The ten races, in the Northstone sponsored league, cover events at 5 miles, 10 miles, 25 miles and 50 miles as well as the GP of the Glens Time Trial.Nigel, from Teeshan road, amassed a total of 29 points which included handicap wins in the McQuigg cup 50 miles time trial and the GP of the Glens.Nigel’s talent wasn’t confined to just time trialling as he also finished fourth in the road racing league series having won two events during the season.Nigel’s road racing success came in the Rex Bonar cup road race at Broughshane on 2nd July and the Randalstown short circuit event on 6th August.Nigel will collect four trophies at the club’s annual prize presentation dinner, which will be held at Eaton Park on Friday 30th November.Emma Smyth, who led the time trial series for part of the season, and who tied with Connor Young in the Gardiner cup 10 miles time trial handicap result, finished second overall with 26.5 points. Connor Young finished third with 20.5 points while his fellow junior rider, Ryan Shaw, who won the Combat Cancer cup, took fourth place with 17 points.   Next it was Ryan Currie 13 points and Maeve Savage on 12.5 (7) Peter Smyth 10 points (8) Tommy Wilson 8 points (9) Claire Gillespie 7.5 points = (10) Jason Burns and Steven Workman 7 points each.
