There was a turnout of 74 riders for Saturday’s Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles – fun tour.

The riders went off in three different groups all of which took in the East Antrim coast line.

The "A” group completed a 56.5 miles ride at 18.6 mph with their route taking in Liminary road to Kells, Tildarg, Ballyeaston, Ballynure then over the snowy glen to the outskirts of Carrickfergus.

Next it was on to Ballycarry, Glynn, Millbrook and up Shane’s hill and back in the main Larne road through Glenwherry. Many thanks to Martin Ruddy for sending me the data report from his Garmin satnav computer.

The touring section split their group into two bunches with the 33 strong, "newcomers”, group completing a 37 miles ride at 15mph. Their route took in Broughshane, Buckna, Hazelbank, Kilnacolpagh, Lisleshill road to Munie cottages and then the descent to Glenarm. The return route was up Glencloy from Carnlough and back in through the Braid to Broughshane.

The other half of the touring group also went to Glenarm and Carnlough but then went on around the coast road to Waterfoot and returned up Glenariff and on home through Cargan, Martinstown and Rathkenny.

Many thanks to all those who continue to donate to the charity fund, another £63 was collected on Saturday which brings the charity fund up to £679. Last year a total of £862 was collected so there is quite a bit to go yet. All proceeds will be donated to the Chernobyl Children’s appeal NI.
