A-group..... Need for Speed!!

Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles – held their second ride in the thirteen week fun tour series on Saturday morning.A near record turnout of 70 cyclists presented themselves at Rex Bonar House on Railway Street for the morning’s activities. The touring section had a group of 47 and they headed out to Gracehill in two bunches from where their route took in Tuppenny road, Straid Road, New Road at Ahoghill, Ballymontenagh, Ballybollen, Taylorstown, Moneyglass and then a brief stop in Toomebridge. They continued on to Deerpark Road towards Bellaghy and then right on to Ballyscullion Road and the magnificent view across to Church Island. Then it was on to Ballynease Road and Portglenone before the final uphill test of Tully and the descent through Ahoghill, Gracehill and Galgorm. The total distance was 35 miles.
The "A” group had a 54 miles ride to Portglenone, Gulladuff, Maghera, Tobermore, Moneymore, The Loup, Toomebridge and then up Roguery hill from Moneyglass, Whitesides road and Slaght. . This group needs to slow down a bit so that the better riders from the touring group can join them. This would give a more equal spread of numbers, now what’s the chances of that happening?
In fact I’m told that this Saturday there may be an opportunity to do just that, whenever an intermediate group will be formed to include the better riders from the touring group and the slower ones from the "A” group. This bunch, which would have about 14 riders, plan to complete a 45 – 50 miles ride at 18mph. This would be a positive move and, if successful, would help make the touring group smaller and, as a result, more manageable.Another £171 was collected on Saturday for the Chernobyl Children’s appeal, this makes the fun tour total £466 with another £150 from the nine glens challenge giving a grand total of £616.
