Matthew Wins 10 Mile TT

Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles – held a 10 miles time trial last Wednesday evening as part of their Northstone series of club races.

The event attracted eighteen club members with another thirteen visitors, including the ladies who were taking part in the Ulster Women’s association league series.

It proved to be a closely contested race with only 12 seconds covering the first four riders. Matthew Brennan was fastest on the night with a time of 22 minutes 49 seconds. Only one second separated second placed Sean Wright (23 minutes 00 seconds) with Ryan Currie who was third with 23 minutes 01 seconds. David Heagney (East Tyrone) was fastest of the visitors with 22 minutes 57 seconds, while Kay Hack (Bann Wheelers) topped the ladies result with 26 minutes 18 seconds. Louise Fullerton was fastest of the BRC ladies with 27 minutes 10 seconds.

Sean wright won the BRC club handicap section with 23 minutes 19 seconds.

Emma leads Ballymena RC Time Trial Handicap league.

Wednesday’s 10 miles time trial was the third round of the BRC handicap league series, which this year will be contested over ten rounds. There will be three 10 miles events, three 25 miles, two 5 miles one 50 miles and the GP of the Glens circuit time trial.

Emma Smyth continues to improve and her second place on Wednesday extends her lead in the league. She has amassed eleven points. Ryan Shaw and Jason Burns are equal second with seven points. (4) Nigel Kernohan 6.5 points (5) Sean Wright six points. Equal (6) and (7) Sammy Kerr and Eileen McFarland five points each.

The next round is the Combat Cancer cup 25 miles time trial at Woodgreen on 6th June. The cup is awarded to the winner of the handicap section.

Youth time trial.
