Racers to test their fitness at Annaclone.
Ballymena Road Club – "Powered by Chain Reaction Cycles" – cyclists have been eagerly awaiting the start of the 2012 racing season, which is now less than two weeks away, with the first event scheduled for Saturday 25th February, when Banbridge cycling club promote their annual Travers engineering 40 miles road race in the sleepy Drumlin village of Annaclone.
This event has opened the NI road racing calendar for over forty years now and it always attracts a maximum field of riders.
It may be relatively short, at 40 miles, but the hilly Annaclone, Katesbridge circuit, which is completed five times, soon takes its toll on legs which aren’t fully race fit.
Last year one of the early starters, Sam Craig (Curran), made the most of his starting handicap to hold off the scratch men and win the race. Ahoghill’s Ryan Connor, who is now back in the Ballymena Road Club – Northstone – colours for the 2012 season finished in fifth place.
