Spar Tour of Omagh 2018

Saturday, July 28, 2018
The Ballymena Road Club team made a very positive start to the Omagh 3 day race last night. The 4 BRC riders (Paul McQuillan, Sammy Foster, Leslie Balmer and Nigel Tennant) rode Stage 1 last night (Friday), a 43 miles course, taking in Omagh, Drumquin, Castlederg, Ederney, Lack and back towards Omagh. Stage 1 offered 3 Kings of the Hills climbs, with Sammy Foster winning KOH 1 and taking 3rd on KOH 3. He now sits in 2nd place in the KOH competition, just one point off the lead. Foster also finished 6th on the stage, which puts him in 6th overall on GC, a fantastic performance. Leslie Balmer finished safely in the peloton in 43rd place.

Nigel Tennant was caught up in a crash during the stage, and Paul McQuillan suffered from mechanical trouble, but both riders completed the stage.

BRC's Laura Campbell is representing Cycling Ulster in the Women's race, where she finished well in the peloton.

Saturday offers 2 stages, a short TT in the morning, followed by a road race stage in the afternoon.

Good luck everyone!!
