Billy Kerr Sportive a roaring success!

Sunday, August 20, 2017
The Billy Kerr Sportive took place last Saturday. The annual event, hosted by Ballymena Road Club offered a choice of 3 routes over 67, 115 & 150km, all taking in the picturesque North Antrim Coast. This year’s event attracted a total of 262 participants from all over the UK and Ireland. Riders from as far afield as Limerick, Banbridge, Ballinamallard, Enniskillen and Taunton, England travelled to take part in the event. All riders safely made it home, thanks in part to the mainly favourable weather conditions.

The Sportive has been running since 2013, in memory of local legendary cyclist, the late Billy Kerr, and has established itself as a regular event in the Irish cycling calendar. Ballymena Road Club would like to thanks everyone who took part and made this years sportive the best yet! We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the hard working volunteers who helped with the feed stations and at the finish. Without volunteers events like this wouldn't take place!

Thanks also to our main sponsors Chain Reaction Cycles for their continued support with this event, all our other sponsors for their kind donations, as well as Ballymena Rugby Club and Cushendall Boat Club for use of their facilities.

The proceeds from this year’s event will go to the NI Children's Heartbeat Trust. Many thanks to Lynn Cowan from the charity who was there to help out on Saturday. The total amount raised from this year’s event will be announced in due course.
