Steven Carruthers, from Galgorm road, has won the Ballymena Road Club – Northstone – junior time trials best all-rounder competition for the 2011 season.
Steven will receive the Ronnie Linton trophy for his efforts when the club prize presentation dinner take place in Leighinmohr House hotel on Friday 25th November.
Steven recorded a five miles time of 12 minutes 22 seconds on the Woodgreen to Ballee course on 4th May. His 10 miles time was 27 minutes 42 seconds, which was recorded in the opening event of the season on 20th April. He only registered one 25 miles time trial performance, and that came on a very tough, windy night in the Combat Cancer cup event, at Woodgreen, on 1st June. Steven’s time on that occasion was 81 minutes 10 seconds. The combined performances resulted in a winning average speed of 21.467mph.
The 17 year old, Cambridge House student, who is currently studying Business studies, Media studies and Drama for "A” level, lists a second place in the Broughshane Australian pursuit event, seventeenth (second BRC) in the inter club league road race on the Caddy circuit and a fourth place in the Ulster junior 10 miles time trial, at Woodgree on 28th August, with 28 minutes 05 seconds, as his best results of the 2011 season.
He finished fifth overall in the BRC Australian pursuit series and was fifteenth in the club’s road racing league. Steven, along with Josh Barr, also won the Brian Russell inter schools team trophy (for Cambridge House) at the Ballymena schools’ championship stage race at Broughshane on 30th May.
