Louise & Maeve report from the Ras na mBan.
Friday, September 16, 2011
Louise and Maeve have been competing for Cycling Ulster at the Ras na mBan.
Here is a report from the race:
Stage 1 - 36miles inclusive of a 269m climb Molls Gap.
We stayed with the main bunch including the pro teams until we reached the climb 20 miles in to the race. I lost contact about a third of the way up the climb and finished the race with a girl from BikeShop. Maeve dropped about half way up the climb and completed the race with a bunch 4-5 other riders. Both happy to have got the first stage under our belts.
Stage 2 - 56miles including 2 cat 3 climbs. Again we both stayed in the bunch until the first climb, an attck from one of the pro riders on the climb had me dropped and Maeve dug in that bit longer. i chased about 20miles and regained contact with Maeve and mary Hunter from our team. we worked well togther, Mary dropping suffering sore legs, and we chased and got onto a bunch of 6 other riders, 3 belgium girls, 1 Welsh, 1 from look mum No Hands and 1 from the irish dev squad. We all worked the final 18 miles very well together. Coming into the town of watervile myself and Maeve were 3rd and 4th in the sprint for the line respectively! happy to have finished ina good bunch.
I'll attach more pics in a second email and we'll let you know how tomorrows stage goes.
Cheers, louise and Maeve.
