Hazel wins Friendship Cup

Hazel Hughes is the Ballymena Road Club "club member of the year” for 2015. Hazel has just completed a ten years term as the club’s secretary and received her award for the past decade of hard work. I am sure Hazel has lost count of the number of letters and emails she has written on behalf of the club never mind the number of times she has marshalled at club and open race events. Hazel has also been involved with the club members’ registration with Cycling Ireland and in recent times also helped with the distribution of the club’s clothing. Congratulations Hazel – this award is long overdue.
Hazel received her award at the Ballymena Road Club annual prize presentation dinner and dance which took place at Eaton Park last Friday evening. Club members were joined by guest of honour Andrew Moss who distributed the silverware. Other special guests included Club President Alan Mark and his wife Mary.
Vice presidents John Maxwell and his wife Margaret, Rex Bonar and daughter Anne.
Representatives were also present from sponsors A Bonar and Co., JBE mechanical and electrical, and from the Country Garage - John and Florence Walker.
George and Joan Graham of Graham’s kitchens Woodgreen (the centre of the club’s time trialling activities) were guests as was Morris Foster MBE former president of the NICF.
The local press was represented by Shaun O’Neill and Darren Crawford of the Ballymena Guardian.
Paul Murdoch (Chairman) was master of ceremonies while the whole evening’s activities were organised by the club’s new secretary Lori Phillips, many thanks for all your hard work.
Special recognition awards were made to Hazel Hughes for her decade as Secretary and to Richard Wilson who retired from the club committee after 40 years’ service.
