Eileen reluctantly sits out the 100.

2014 Ulster ladies’ 100 miles champion Eileen Burns reluctantly didn’t defend her title in Sunday’s championship as she wanted to be fully fit for this week’s Ras na mBan stage race.

"I was torn all week deciding whether to compete in the 100 Time Trial on Sunday as I knew I had limited time to recovery before the Ras na mBan, which is set to start on Wednesday. I would have loved to have again achieved all four Ulster TT Championship titles for the second year in a row, but I knew I would jeopardise my performance at the Ras.

Honestly, I felt disheartened watching others finish on Sunday, even with the look of pain in their faces, but hopefully I can turn that into motivation to finish the Ras in a good position making the top half of the general classification.” Said Eileen

Eileen’s husband Jason did ride the 100 and he achieved a personal best time of 3 hours 53 minutes 41 seconds, taking 24 minutes off last year’s performance. This was good enough for eighth place from 26 starters.

The winner was Ulster 50 miles champion Sean McIntyre (Caldwell cycles) in 3-41-34. Andrew Bye 3-44-11. Barry Hayes 3-45-15.
