Neil Kerr son of Billy to Ride Sportive

Neil Kerr the son of the late Billy Kerr has entered for the Sportive again this year. He only started cycling last year in preparation for the inaugural "Billy Kerr Sportive”

Neil gave me this interview.

Are you training hard for this year’s Billy Kerr Sportive?

"My training has been going well; I've had my bike a year now since the end of June 2014 and really have the cycling bug. Last year, when I started cycling, it was Geoff Bell who took me under his wing and built up my training miles in preparation for the first sportive. I've been trying to follow the same kind of training plan this year; going out on the Ballymena club runs at weekends and Michelin runs during the week, trying to get 50-100 miles per week, however the weather hasn't been kind!”

What other Sportives have you now completed since last year’s BKS?

"I've recently done a few charity runs; I completed the Freewheelers 75 miles lap of lough Neagh on Saturday past. It was a fast run with a 20mph average, which is the best I've ever done! I also completed the Glenravel cycle club’s fun run of the glens "FROG” in June and the junior tour of Ulster sportive earlier in the year. These were all really well organised events and good training miles!

How is your charity fundraising going?

"This year the Billy Kerr sportive is raising money for the "cancer fund for children”, like last year I'm doing my own fundraising, I've got a just giving page which people can donate to online by searching "Neil Kerr" on the just giving site. I also have sponsorship forms in Santander Ballymena for anyone who would like to make a cash donation. My employer - Santander will also match the total amount I raise."

"The Kerr family and I would like to thank all the members of Ballymena road club for their time and effort in running the sportive in memory of my father. I am excited and proud to get on the bike and ride in my dad’s memory.” Added Neil
