The time trial took place on Thursday night over a hilly 23 miles course on the Killyclogher road where Eileen clocked 57 minutes 36 seconds. The winner was Siobhan Horgan (Team Aqua Blue) with 53 minutes 28 seconds. Eve McCrystal (Garda CC) was second with 55.43 and Caroline Ryan (Garda) third on 56.08. Eileen’s time was good enough for sixth place.
Eileen’s husband Jason recorded 54 minutes 42 seconds in the men’s race which was won by u23 rider Ryan Mullen of the professional An Post, chain reaction team in 47 minutes 46 seconds.
Women’s road race.
Eileen was tenth, from 56 starters, in the road race just 3 minutes 8 seconds behind the winner Lydia Boylan (Team WNT) who clocked 2 hours 44 minutes 59 seconds for the 62 miles.
Eileen said "It was an unconventional Time Trial course due to climbs. I found it gruelling and tough both mentally and physically, but on reflection I am happy with 6th, I was only 1min 28 seconds from 3rd placed tester Caroline Ryan, who is a world class athlete, and someone I look up to.”
"I went into the road race with no expectations, I wanted to finish. When the break went in the second lap I was in two minds whether to jump and go with it, but I did and I am glad I did. I'm proud to finish in 10th position, especially as I got dropped from the break when it split up in the last 10 miles and I finished on my own knowing that there was a 35 rider bunch on my tail. My legs were on fire at the finish to say the least.”
